The situation
In the ten to fifteen years Venezuela has suffered an economic crisis that recently accelerated with the drop in the oil prices. A combination of public policies, high spending, and low income have been a recipe for scarcity and hyperinflation at every level.
Now more than ever Venezuelans are struggling to survive. Unofficial statistics claim that 80% of Venezuelans are in poverty, and 50% are in extreme poverty. Access to at least one daily meal and healthcare is now almost impossible for many.
To put things in perspective, a basic salary is currently approximately $30/month. Food alone will cost a person approximately $2/day, do the math and you can only eat for half of the month. Funds for housing, transportation, clothing, and others are practically impossible to save.
How we help
We contribute in three charitable fronts: food, healthcare, and economic support
Food
We distribute food among citizens who otherwise would look for food in the dumpsters, we either source ingredients, cook, and distribute food or sponsor partners who do the same at reduced costs.
Healthcare
One of our directors is member of the healthcare community in Venezuela, through her relations we sponsor surgeries for the poor, mainly children and the elder. We also distribute medicines which due to their cost are impossible for people to buy.
Economic support
Every day we learn about people who are in dire situations, whether its the loss of a relative, loss of a job, inflation or others. Selectively, we contribute to specific causes where funds are the main need. Examples include education, food for a household, lost wages, sudden unexpected family expense, and more.
How you can contribute
Donate
Foreign currency goes long way in Venezuela. As an example, ten dollars ($10) can help feed one person for approximately two full days. Fifty dollars ($50) can feed a family of four for almost two weeks. Your donation will go straight to distribution of food among the poor or distribution of medicines for low-income people.
